Learning about Firearms
I was just curious where you guys all picked up your knowledge of firearms. I have only shot/used the m16. Not looking to necessarily become an expert, but I am looking to learn some about them physically, purchasing, storage, where they can be used in practice etc.. Any references or advice would be appreciated.:ok:

Re: Learning about Firearms
There is a wealth of gun info on the net. Wikipedia has a bunch. You can poke around there for hours and learn quite a bit. I have surely omitted some excellent sources but you can start with these.

Re: Learning about Firearms
Mostly hands on for me, with some help from 'gun guys' and, more recently, the net. When I was 12 I got my first 870, I took it directly to my bedroom and detail stripped it. I wouldn't suggest it, but I did finally get it back together. Did the same thing with my M700 the next year, and I'm still doing it.
Even complex firearms are faily simple machines, a little common sense goes a long way. As far as safety, common sense tells you all you need to know, the main thing is BEING CONSISTENT with applying said common sense. Don't point the firearm at anything you don't want to destroy? Well, Duh! Yet thousands of dunces manage to shoot themselves (accidentally) each year. |
